Chart

From Puzzle Pirates

A chart is an item that describes a route between two adjacent islands. It can be held in a pirate's inventory or on the chart table of a ship. Charts will decay over time.

In order for a ship to sail, a course must first be charted. This course goes from the current island or league point to the final island destination. For the course to be valid, the league points used must either be on a chart on the table, in the pirates inventory, or memorized by the pirate doing the charting and the course must end at an island.

[edit] "Blending" charts

Some charts "blend"--you can plan a third route if you have two specific charts. This is because you can plan a route between any two adjacent league points as long as you have charts for (or have memorized) all of the league points in question.

For example, on Midnight, if you have both the Cnossos - Winter Solstice and the Winter Solstice - Oyster charts, it is possible to chart a route from Cnossos to Oyster that goes near but bypasses Winter Solstice. On Cobalt or Viridian, if you have both the Dragon's Nest - Hunter's Point and the Hunter's Point - Olive Island charts, you can chart a route that goes directly from Dragon's Nest to Olive, going near but never visiting Hunter's Point.

There are a few restrictions when it comes to combining routes. The routes must intersect or come within one league point of each other at some point. Your planned route must terminate at an island. Finally, your planned route cannot intersect itself.
