Commanding officer

The commanding officer (CO) is the officer in charge of the current pillage. The CO usually handles all aspects of managing the pillage, though is often helped by other officers, especially on larger pillages. These duties include:

• charting a course
• deporting
• setting sail at league points
• hiring jobbers
• planking jobbers
• ordering pirates to duty puzzles
• intercepting other ships
• battle navigation
• divvying the booty
• restocking the ship.

This is sometimes termed the Officer in Charge (OiC).
