Helm

 The helm of the ship is controled by the last person to open the navigation puzzle. It is not necessary to attempt the puzzle--opening the navigation puzzle and immediately closing it is sufficient. The name of the person is listed next to the ship name in (parenthesis) by the /who command. When sea battle begins, the person at the helm controls placement of tiles and firing canons.

The helm may be taken at any time by another officer, or pirate/jobber with the navigation order, including during battle. If another officer had the helm, they will no longer have control of the ship. The pirate with the helm may control the ship from within any of the duty puzzles.

If nobody has touched the navigation station, there will be nobody in charge of the helm--during sea battle the ship will be a sitting duck until somebody takes the helm. Any officer in charge who does not wish to play the navigation puzzle should remember to open and close the navigation puzzle before the voyage starts so that they won't have to dash to the helm at the start of a sea battle
