The short sword is a slightly better sprinkle (and thus strike, too) version of its cousin, the foil. The only difference between the two is a change of the bottom block in the 2 and the 4 columns. While the short sword is still inferior to several more expensive swords, the two changes are still enough to make it noticeably superior to the foil in swordfighting.
While not suited for the expert that wants to win tournaments or duels, the short sword provides a reasonable amount of quality for a low price.

In December 2003, Tedv considered the short sword the fifth best sword in the game.[1] The short sword, although unchanged, would not rank as highly today. Some of the swords that were less powerful than the short sword back in 2003 have been modified and considerably improved.
